LifewithArt asked a young photographer, Katie Rylance, whom we knew also helped at RDA Riding Centres, if she would shoot a series of photos for a national exhibition.
Katie studied Graphic Communication at Bath Spa University and has gained valuable experience with a number of specialist photographic assignments. She is exactly the kind of young person LifewithArt support by not only advancing the education of the public in the arts but by also helping us achieve our second purpose of promoting the relief of disabled people.
The brief was to take a series of photograph,s which would sit alongside text panels, which would make an interesting and thought provoking exhibition promoting the work of the RDA and also assisting in the recruitment of more volunteers. We believe Katie has succeeded in these aims!
At RDA, their horses and ponies provide therapy, achievement, and enjoyment to people with disabilities all over the UK. They have a network of 400+ groups across the UK who organise activities such as riding, carriage driving, vaulting (gymnastics on horseback), dressage and show jumping for their 17,000 participants. They have been carrying out their life-changing activities for over 50 years and offer activities for all age groups and to people with any disability. You are just as likely to find an RDA group in an urban setting as a rural one.
RDA is run by 13,000 volunteers who give their time to the RDA centres all over the UK but need to recruit more people to invest a couple of hours each week so they can continue to provide life-changing activities and increase provision to include the thousands of people who are currently missing out. LifewithArt, in addition to providing art workshops sessions for RDA Groups, are delighted to have been chosen to sponsor the RDA’s National Art Competition. We now can exhibit photos of the majority of the entries in all categories in our Charity Arts Centres. Well worth a visit!
