Residents from Millwater Care Home, a residential centre for adults with learning disabilities, had a discotastic time in Regents Court in Solihull throughout September and October.
The project was made up of many different elements. First step was character design; the group sketched their designs on paper deciding on colours and styles which reflected the personality of the artist. Next the characters were brought to life; small wooden manikins were painted, dressed and accessorised with a variety of materials and a splash of glitter. UV paint, sparkly lights and glitter were used to turn a simple cardboard box into a disco venue along with the essential disco ball! Finally, some funky music was found on the radio and all were ready to disco! A UV light brought the disco to life and stop motion photography was used to make a series of mini films of each character enjoying themselves on the dance floor.
“We all had a wonderful time creating this project. So many laughs! Every time a good song came on the radio somebody would be on their feet dancing. We’ve already started working towards our next project which involves clay animals. Perhaps we’ll do another stop motion project next occupation.” Angel Caval, Midlands Art Co-ordinator
