The Bristol based charity Thomas Moore Project, who provide residential care for adults with learning and physical disabilities, are always on the lookout for exciting opportunities for their residents. So when they were offered free music workshops at LwA’s local charity arts centre Highwood Pavilions they jumped at the chance. The workshops were led by LwA’s Cathy Judge, a professional singer-songwriter who has just released her third CD ‘Let in the Light’. Cathy’s background as a support worker for people with learning disabilities combined with her musical talents makes her the perfect person to run these sessions.
Each workshop started with some warm up scales and facial exercises followed by a sing along of a few old favourites such as ‘How much is that doggy in the window’ and ‘Doe a deer’ with plenty of breaks for tea and biscuits. Sarah Hartland, LwA Arts Co-ordinator for the south-west said
“Singing London’s Burning in a round was quite challenging but it sounded amazing and the tambourines and shakers added some extra sparkle.”
All in all the workshops were felt to be a great success “I really recommend these sessions to other people. All our residents who attended had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the sing along.” Gemma, Thomas Moore Project.
